Santillana del Mar

In 2021 the Caja Cantabria Palace in Santillana del Mar hosted the first edition of Mundus Novus, an exhibition conceived as a complement to Alma de América. Pre-Columbian Art and Myth, the fruit of the collaboration between the Pérez Trespalacios Collection and the Fundación Caja Cantabria.

The show brought together an extraordinary set of bibliographic treasures, valuable first editions and historical cartography from both institutions. Maps from the age in which Europe discovered the Americas, together with facsimiles of exceptional works such as the great pre-Columbian codices and the chronicles of New Spain, offered a fascinating approach to the encounter between two worlds.

Mundus Novus thus enriched the narrative of Alma de América, bringing the perspective of history, cartography and the written word to the artistic and spiritual universe of the American civilizations.

Eternal gratitude to the Fundación Caja Cantabria
