Mundus Novus. The Encounter of Two Worlds
27 Sept 2021 — 7 Jan. 2022
Words of thanks

Between September 2021 and January 2022 the Mundus Novus exhibition travelled in full to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where it shared the space with Alma de América at the Cultural Space of the Fundación CajaCanarias.

Its presentation in the Canary Islands took on a particularly profound significance. The archipelago, historically linked to the Americas by close cultural, human and commercial ties, is a privileged place in which to reflect on the encounter between the two worlds. For centuries the Canary Islands were a bridge between Europe and the American continent, the setting for countless voyages, exchanges and relationships that left an indelible mark on their collective identity.

In this context, Mundus Novus found a particularly receptive audience. The exhibition was welcomed with enthusiasm in a land where the history of the Americas is not seen as a distant reality but as an essential part of its own memory. The historical cartography, the codices and the bibliographic testimonies thus took on an especially close dimension, evoking the deep historical, cultural and emotional ties that bind the Canary Islands to the New World.
